The Love Equation: God's Design for Family
Loving rightly by loving God first.

What happens when the loves in our lives fall out of order?
In Disordered Loves, Blaze Ginio explores the biblical structure of love, authority, responsibility, and relationships through the framework laid out in Ephesians 5:20–6:4. At the heart of the book is one central idea: many of the problems in our homes, relationships, identities, and societies stem not from a lack of love, but from love being placed in the wrong order.
We were created to love many things — God, spouses, children, family, work, purpose, and community — but Scripture presents a divine hierarchy for those loves. When those loves become disordered, what should bring life instead begins to produce confusion, conflict, disappointment, and even destruction.
This book examines the “love equation” that God designed for humanity: God's love toward us, our love toward God, the love between husband and wife, the relationship between parents and children, the place of work and responsibility, and how all other loves must ultimately submit to God's intended order.
Drawing from theology, Scripture, practical observation, and honest reflection, Disordered Loves wrestles with questions many people silently carry. What happens when children become more important than marriage? When work replaces family? When romantic love becomes idolatry? When religion replaces intimacy with God? When parents control instead of nurture? When identity is built on human approval instead of divine love?
At its core, the book argues that sin is often not simply loving bad things, but loving good things more than we should. Even beautiful gifts such as family, success, relationships, or ministry can become destructive when they occupy places in our hearts that were never meant for them.
Rather than presenting the family merely as a social institution, Disordered Loves presents it as a reflection of divine order — a structure designed to reveal something about God Himself. The book explores how rightly ordered love creates stability, freedom, sacrifice, leadership, peace, and flourishing, while disordered love leads to confusion, resentment, insecurity, and brokenness.
This is a book for husbands and wives, parents and children, singles and families, leaders and believers — anyone seeking to understand how God intended love, responsibility, and relationships to function together.
Because sometimes the greatest danger in life is not loving too little… but loving the wrong things too much.
